How long before I get gall bladder surgery should my friend stop smoking cigarettes?

My friend is 17 and 315 pounds I think she said. She's been smoking cigs for 4 yrs. She is getting gall bladder surgery in 2 weeks. If she stops smoking now, will it help not cause any complications with the surgery and anethstesia?
