Does the wool setting on a washing machine work to wash more delicate woolen items?

I'm tired of hand washing my lambs wool jumper. Is it safe to use the wool setting on my washing machine to wash it? Ie will it cause bobbling stretching or any other damage to my jumper if I wash it this way?
